Terre de Hommes - Specialised care: Which child can be operated?
No life has more value than another. For the doctors of the Inselspital in Berne, there can be no doubt about this. Dr. Alexander Kadner’s team operates between 120 and 130 children with heart problems every year. 20 of them are transferred to Switzerland thanks to Terre des hommes for the medical treatment they could not receive in their own countries. But others have to stay behind. If they are not operated, they will probably never reach the age of ten.
Terre de Hommes - Juvenile justice
Around one million children in the world are detained in jail instead of sent to school. Terre des hommes (Tdh) aims to change this situation by implementing a justice approach specialised for minors.
The current situation:
• More than a million children are in legal custody around the world.
• The majority of them have not been tried in a court of law.
• Children who are imprisoned are sometimes arrested preventively because they are considered to “present a risk of delinquency.”
• The underlying causes that place children in conflict with the law are, among others, poverty, breakdown of family, a lack of education, migration, mistreatment and exploitation.

Terre de Hommes - Kosovo
Active in Kosovo since 2000, Terre des hommes (Tdh) runs a project to better protect children against abuse, neglect, violence, delinquency, exploitation and trafficking. In 2013, 1’407 people benefited from the activities implemented.

About the theme:
We want these designs to take on the role of a snapshot in time representing the 21st century and showing what is going on.
We created this design to raise awareness of organ trafficking. And we want to show the importance of supporting kids and young people in the world’s poorest countries, as well as their parents and adults - to prevent them becoming victimes of their poverty.
This is our aim! This video expresses everything! This is the only way we can live together, caring for one another!

Killed for Organs: China's Secret State Transplant Business
It's being called "abhorrent" and a "crime against humanity." Allegations of forced organ harvesting in China started to surface in 2006. Since then, mounting evidence suggests these allegations are true—and even worse than originally suspected. Prisoners of conscience—especially Falun Gong—are being killed for their organs. Starting in 1999, the number of transplant centers in China increased by 300% in just 8 years, even though China has no effective national organ donation system. 1999 was the year the Chinese regime began persecuting adherents of the Falun Gong spiritual practice, sending hundreds of thousands to labor camps. Many of them were never seen again. Transplant medicine was developed to save lives. But in China, innocent people are being killed for their organs—so they can be sold for profit. Increasingly, doctors, congressmen, international politicians, human rights lawyers, journalists, and people around the world are raising awareness about forced organ harvesting.
African Girl Sold To Europe for 'Organ Harvesting'
Information has emerged that a young girl has been smuggled out of Africa and sold for organ harvesting.
According to Telegraph UK, this is the first case of a child being trafficked into Britain for the sole intention of providing organs for people desperate for a transplant. The girl's identity has been protected. She was taken from Somalia and smuggled into the UK so that her organs could be removed and sold. A report by the British government revealed that human trafficking has reached record levels, rising by 50 per cent in the last year. In total, 371 children were exploited in 2012, most of them used as slaves or sexually abused. 95 children were from Vietnam, 67 from Nigeria and 25 from China, and others from Romania and Bangladesh. 20 British children, according to the report, had also been victims of human trafficking, in cases where they were defiled and exploited by gangs of Asian men. An adult woman was in 2012 reported as the first case of a human brought to the UK by an organised gang with the intention of removing her organs and selling them on. World Health Organisation says an international shortage of organs for transplantation has led to a black market for organ trading, as well as "organ transplant tourism". According to WHO, payment for organs "is likely to take unfair advantage of the poorest and most vulnerable groups, undermines altruistic donation and leads to profiteering and human trafficking". Kidney leads the list of thee organs most trafficked because one can be removed with the patient still being able to live a healthy life. Approximately 7,000 kidneys are illegally trafficked annually. Over $1billion is generated through this illegal trade annually.

Illegal organ trade (Wikipedia)
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), illegal organ trade occurs when organs are removed from the body for the purpose of commercial transactions. The WHO justifies these actions by stating that, “Payment for...organs is likely to take unfair advantage of the poorest and most vulnerable groups, undermines altruistic donation and leads to profiteering and human trafficking.” Despite these ordinances, it was estimated that 5% of all organ recipients engaged in commercial organ transplant in 2005. Research indicates that illegal organ trade is on the rise, with a recent report by Global Financial Integrity estimating that the illegal organ trade generates profits between $600 million and $1.2 billion per year with a span over many countries, including but not limited to
- Angola
- Balkan Region
- Brazil
- Canada
- China

- Costa Rica
- Eastern Europe

Criminal networks increasingly engage in kidnapping of people, especially children and teens, who are then taken to locations with medical equipment where they are murdered and their organs harvested for the illegal organ trade.
Poverty and loopholes in legislation also contribute to the illegal trade of organs. Poverty is seen in all countries with a large black market for organs. Legislation is another contributing factor in the illegal organ trade, especially legislation with loopholes. For example, India's Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA) requires that an organ donor must be a relative, spouse, or an individual donating for reasons of "affection." Often, claims of "affection" are unfounded and the organ donor has no connection to the recipient. Monetary transactions for organs are illegal in India currently, but there are no laws concerning funds given to a spouse. The spousal inclusion provides a loophole for illegal trade; in some cases organ donors marry the recipient to avoid legal penalty.

Organ theft in Kosovo (Wikipedia)
Organ theft in Kosovo (sometimes also known as the "yellow house" case) refers to the alleged organ harvesting and killing of an indeterminate number of disappeared people. Various sources had estimated that the number of victims ranged from a "handful",[1] up to 50,[2] between 24 to 100[3] to over 300.[4] The victims were believed to be mostly ethnic Serbs of Kosovo, killed by perpetrators with strong links to elements of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) in 1999.

Banners Calling for Justice Follow China’s Xi Jinping to New York City
NEW YORK—Banners and protesters were never too far from Chinese leader Xi Jinping while he was in Seattle and Washington, D.C., the first two stops of his formal state visit to the United States. Now in New York, where Xi will deliver a keynote speech at the 70th anniversary session of the United Nations on Sept. 28, similar banners are being displayed outside the U.N. headquarters, the Chinese regime’s consulate and permanent mission to the U.N., and near the historic Waldorf Astoria, where Xi is staying.

Thai Police Taking Orders from Beijing, Again?
NEW YORK – As many as thirteen Falun Gong practitioners residing in Thailand under the protection of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have been detained by Thai police raising concerns Beijing is, again, pressuring southeast Asian countries into suppressing Falun Gong.
“Over the past 15 years, dozens of Chinese Falun Gong refugees in Thailand have successfully sought freedom and happily settled down in other countries through the help of UNHCR,” says Falun Dafa Information Center spokesperson, Mr. Erping Zhang. “However, these recent arrests raise a significant concern that we are seeing Thai police bow to pressure from Beijing to arrest Falun Gong practitioners who are seeking asylum from arbitrary imprisonment and torture in China.”
The thirteen UNHCR refugees are being held at Immigration Detention Center in Bangkok.

Italy Censures China Organ Harvest With Senate Bill
The Italian Senate has approved a bill that would introduce harsh penalties against individuals who knowingly traffic in human organs. In their discussion of the proposal before the vote, senators focused their outrage on China’s organ transplantation system, which they said has lead to the organized murder of tens of thousands of innocents.
“China is second only to the United States when it comes to the number of transplants,” said Sen. Maurizio Romani, who proposed the bill. But China has no established procedures for procuring organs from brain dead patients—the backbone organ source in Western countries. It also has no national organ-sharing system. Yet it boasts roughly 10,000 transplants per year—far more than the number of executed prisoners. Where do the other organs come from? asked Romani on the senate floor.
