Threats from the US have now become reality. In November, contributions to UNESCO amounting to 60 million dollars were stopped and UNESCO therefore lost it's biggest sponsor. According to US secretary of state Clinton, this was caused by a ban in legislation. This outlawed the US government funding organisations that accept Palestine as a member. The US government sees Palestine's admission as being "premature" and "counter productive" as it distracts focus from joint negotiations between Israel and Palestinians. The latter looked happily on, as this sends out the message: a clear majority worldwide don't see Palestinians as the victim.
