In today’s world, around 85 million children are forced into labour. Victims of some of the worst forms of child labour,
they are recruited by force and reduced to slavery, often being subjected to prostitution. They become victims of human trafficking,

About the theme:

We want these designs to take on the role of a snapshot in time representing the 21st century and showing what is going on.

Baraq has heard about the situation in Qatar and of Ganesh, who died there at the young age of 16. Two months later, he was shipped home in a red coffin Each month, dozens of young Nepalese and Indian migrant workers from the world's poorest countries return home in their coffins.

Baraq has created this design for all migrant workers - in memory and honour of their deaths, and to motivate us living to make a change! These people are victims of the most extreme type of capitalism. A migrant worker works 15 hours per day and earns 4.99€ (eight dollars).  If the situation of the workers does not change, it is increasingly likely that up to 4000 migrant workers will die in the upcoming 5 years They belong to their contractor and have give up their passports to them. They can no longer make decisions for themselves. They are forced to continue working, even if they don't want to work under such conditions! We cannot turn our backs on these facts. As a community, we are called upon to take over responsibility and strive for change in the migrant workers' countries of origin. This is why we, the Baraq team, have decided to support the Qatar migrant workers' countries of origin with donations.

Norbert Blüm - Workers Conditions in Qatar

This video contains my own English translation of a recent undercover visit by the former German Employment minister Norbert Bluem to a Qatari construction site where a stadium is being built for the 2022 World Cup. It highights the squalid conditions the workers have to endure. The piece originally appeared on Stern TV and has gone viral in the German speaking world. It is definitely worth looking.

Nepali Slaves in the Middle East

Pete Pattison investigates the trafficking of people escaping poverty and conflict in Nepal. Unscrupulous agents take huge sums of money from them for work abroad then consign them to slavery and appalling conditions in the Middle East. Many are abused by their employers and some are killed at the hands of agents.

Modern day slavery - Supply Chains

This introductory video opened Trust Women 2013 plenary on rooting out slavery in supply chains, Slavery is all around us. It's been linked to the supply chains of everyday products, from shoes and bags

This is our aim! This video expresses everything! This is the only way we can live together, caring for one another!

One Human Family, Food for All (Caritas Internationalis)

Based on an ancient story about hunger and sharing, this animate video is part of Caritas’ “One Human Family, Food for All” campaign. The “allegory of the spoons” teaches us that when we struggle to feed only ourselves, everyone goes hungry. But when we focus on our neighbour’s hunger, we discover there are ways to feed everyone.

How to combat modern slavery - Kevin Bales (Ted)

In this moving yet pragmatic talk, Kevin Bales explains the business of modern slavery, a multibillion-dollar economy that underpins some of the worst industries on earth. Rerun the Vote

In 2010, FIFA awarded the 2022 World Cup to Qatar  - a country with few protections for migrant workers who face injury and death every day. FIFA and Qatar have both pledged reform, but their record is full of broken promises.
Save lives, restore the game’s integrity and the trust of fans: tell FIFA to choose a World Cup venue where workers’ rights are respected. It's Time for FIFA to Rerun the Vote.
